How much does flake epoxy flooring cost per square foot in Bloomington IL?

Flake epoxy flooring in Bloomington typically costs $2.50 to $4.50 per square foot installed, depending on the size of your project, the color of the flakes you choose, and whether you add a polyaspartic topcoat for extra durability. A typical two-car garage (400–500 sq ft) runs $1,000 to $2,250 before topcoat, or $1,500 to $3,000 with a protective polyaspartic seal.

What is flake epoxy flooring and why is it popular in Bloomington?

Flake epoxy (also called chip epoxy or broadcast chip epoxy) is an epoxy base coat embedded with colored vinyl flakes during application, then sealed with a topcoat. It's popular in Bloomington homes because it's decorative—hides imperfections and stains better than solid colors—extremely durable, and offers dozens of color combinations. The flakes also add slip resistance, making it safer for garage floors that get wet or dusty.

Is flake epoxy flooring more expensive than solid-color epoxy?

Yes, flake epoxy typically costs $0.50 to $1.00 more per square foot than solid-color epoxy because of the material cost of the colored flakes and the labor to broadcast them evenly during the installation process. However, the added durability and the fact that it hides dust and imperfections better often makes it a better long-term investment for Bloomington homeowners.

How long does a flake epoxy floor last in Bloomington's climate?

A quality flake epoxy system with a polyaspartic topcoat will last 7–10 years or longer in Bloomington if properly maintained. The key is the topcoat—without it, you get 4–6 years; with a high-quality polyaspartic, you extend that significantly. Annual light cleaning and resealing every 2–3 years keeps it looking new and extends the lifespan.

What colors and flake options are available for flake epoxy in Bloomington?

Flake epoxy comes in dozens of combinations: black base with white, blue, red, or gold flakes; gray base with charcoal or white flakes; and custom blends. Most Bloomington homeowners choose black or gray bases because they hide oil stains and dust best.
